Pijper published some of the earliest studies of
Islamic architecture in Indonesia in English. For
anyone interested in Islamic SE Asia, he's essential
reading.

dear Elena Paskaleva,
He was one of significant dutch scholar who studied
Islam in Indonesia. Someone who wants to study
Islam and Islamic Architecture in Indonesia
should read his works and publications. Some his
publications were:
- Pijper, G.H. (1977), Studien over de Geschiedenis van
de Islam in Indonesia 1990-1950. "De Moskeen van Java"
was one of the chapter inside that book.
- Pijper, G.H. Fragmenta Islamica, studien over het
Islamisme in Netherlandsch-Indie. "Woman and Mosque"
was one of the interesting chapter inside that book.
- Pijper, G.H. The Minaret in Java, in F.D.K. Bosch et
al (eds), India Antiqua. A volume of oriental studies
presented by his friends and pupils to Jean Philippe
Vogel (O), leiden; Brill, Kern Institute, pp. 274-283.
